Description

Ihatov Gensou: Kenji no Haru offers a unique biographical portrait of the great modern Japanese poet Kenji Miyazawa. The film is highly stylized and intense, drawing on Miyazawa’s own writing techniques to convey his life story. Miyazawa frequently used animals as main characters in his stories and poems, a motif that director Shoji Kawamori employs to recreate the poet’s fantastical land of Ihatov, which serves as the backdrop for his life. Beautiful and moving, the film stands as a fitting tribute to one of Japan’s greatest writers.
