Maihime follows a lonely exchange student who falls passionately in love with a dancer. The girl descends into madness when she learns that her lover is leaving to return home. Set against the backdrop of 19th‑century Berlin, the story captures the wanderings of youth. The tale is based on the legendary Meiji novel “Maihime” (Dancing Girl) by Mori Ogai and was adapted by Ga‑nime’s School Girl producer Okū Shutaro, who showcases his illustration talent and brings on Ms. Furuya Akisa to produce the booklets, slide shows, and animation for this Ga‑nime. Through the foreign setting, the narrative reveals the pathos and poetic emotions of this elegant story, as fresh artistic images bring it to life.
