By 2061 AD, fifty years after humanity introduced the Network Society, people expected a utopia in which consciousness‑level connectivity would bring everyone closer. Instead, the new infrastructure gave rise to serious problems, personal data leaks and widespread manipulation of information. Despite these risks, society remained dependent on the Network, unable to abandon it. Consequently, a new, more secure Network realm was created: the Meta Real Network, commonly shortened to “the Metal.” The Metal stores individual memory data inside protected, stand‑alone organic cyber enclaves.
