Yoshiaki Kawajiri (河尻 吉明, Kawajiri Yoshiaki; born November 18, 1950) is a highly regarded Japanese animator, director, and character designer, known for his dynamic, stylistic, and often dark approach to anime. He began his career at Madhouse in the late 1970s and quickly became recognized for his talent in action sequences, fluid animation, and bold visual storytelling. Kawajiri is celebrated for pushing the boundaries of adult-oriented animation and for creating memorable, intense imagery.

He is best known for directing iconic anime films and series such as Ninja Scroll (1993), Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2000), and Cyber City Oedo 808 (1990). His works are characterized by fast-paced action, highly detailed character designs, striking choreography, and mature themes, blending horror, fantasy, and sci-fi elements. Kawajiri’s animation style emphasizes strong visual impact, often combining traditional techniques with modern innovation.
